Contoured Surface Observations

Announcements

1 May 2012 - The RUC model made its last operational run at 12Z this morning and has since been replaced by the Rapid Refresh (RAP) model, which is a 13 km run of the WRF ARW with similar physics to the RUC. More information about the RAP can be found here. Hoot is showing RAP output in the RUC slot and will update the product names soon.

24 Apr 2012 - Thank you for being patient with us during our ongoing server transition process. Satellite and sounding products have successfully transitioned over to the new server, so they should no longer experience interruptions. Due to issues with our main image generation program (GEMPAK), our surface, model, and upper air map products have not yet made a successful transition. We have started producing NAM model products on the new server using HootPy, our custom-made Python-based plotting program, and will eventually produce all of our map products that way. Check out the new look and let us know how you like it.

31 Jan 2012 - We are currently transferring between servers and intermittent service interruptions may result. Full site functionality should resume by this weekend. Thank you for your patience.

8 Dec 2011 - The GOES-W satellite products have been updated to use data from the now operational GOES-15 satellite. This update includes an increase in GOES-W water vapor imagery grid spacing from 8 km to 4 km.

8 Nov 2011 - The models page now keeps track of the time frame you are viewing when switching between model products. Direct comparisons between products at the same time are now easier than ever!

1 Nov 2011 - Changes have been made to the forecast hour buttons to make navigation easier. Changing forecast hour by mouse-over is now off by default, and when mouse-over is off, the hour buttons are clickable. Mouse-over can be enabled by clicking the check-box next to the forecast hours. We also recommend using the keyboard commands for easy navigation.
