During the past week, Oklahoma has been baking in the summer sun. Temperatures have regularly topped 100F. The average high temperature for mid-July in central Oklahoma is 95F, so getting 100F is not too abnormal. The figure from the Oklahoma Climatological survey indicates that central Oklahoma receives between 10 and 20 days above 100F each year. This is based on the 30-year average of Oklahoma temperature data.
What makes this current heat wave particularly unbearable is the fact that temperatures have been above 100F for about a week (as of July 20th). Within the next two days there could be a couple of temperature records set across the state as the temperature spikes near 110F. However, relief is in sight, the forecast is calling for a "cold" front to come through over the weekend. This should help bring the temperatures back into the normal range, for a little while at least.
Hopefully the cold front will make it and take a little edge off this heat!!! Can't help thinking..."I'm dreaming of a white Christmas..."
